Rava Vangi bath

Rava upma is one of the easiest to make dishes. It does not require too many fancy ingredients, and it cooks easily as well.

I made a slight variation to the regular upma, by adding some vangi bath powder. The addition of this powder gives a different flavor to the upma.

Here are the ingredients:

Ingredients:

Roasted sooji (rava)- 2 cups
Vangi bath powder- 2 tsps (I used the MTR brand)
Water- 4 cups. (Generally 1 cup of rava requires 2 cups of water.)
Salt-as needed
Oil- 3 tsps
Turmeric powder-a pinch
Ghee - 1 tsp (optional- to be added in the end)

Vegetables used:

Cabbage - 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Eggplant- 1 (finely chopped)
Onions-1 (finely chopped)
Tomato- 1 (finely chopped)
Green chillies ( adapt it to your spice preference)

Spices for seasoning:

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Preparation:

Heat oil in a kadai. Add the mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add the green chillies and the chopped onions . Fry for a couple of minutes. Once the onions turn translucent, add the chopped tomato, followed by the cabbage and the eggplant pieces. Add in the turmeric powder and the vangi bath powder. Add some water to cook the veggies.

Once the veggies are slightly cooked, add the required water and the needed salt. Once the water starts boiling, add the rava slowly, stirring well at the same time, to ensure that no lumps are formed.
Cook covered on a medium flame. If using, add a teaspoon of ghee at this stage.

Once the rava is perfectly cooked, stir well to make sure that it is well blended.

Transfer to a plate and enjoy it hot.

Notes:

1. If using unroasted rava, dry roast the rava for a couple of minutes, prior to making upma.
2. Feel free to add in other veggies of your choice.
3. Adding ghee at the end is completely optional.
4. You can make this as the regular upma, by choosing not to add the vangi bath powder.
