Avocado Rotis
I made these super nutritious rotis for our dinner yesterday. These rotis come loaded with the health benefits that avocado offers.
The Avocado is a unique fruit that is rich in healthy fats. It is high in oleic acid, which is anti inflammatory in nature. It is rich in fiber, and a nutritional powerhouse of certain vitamins and minerals, making it a powerful cancer fighting food.
Mashed avocado seasoned with chilli powder and cilantro leaves forms the base for this dough.
We had Gobi-bhindi subji as a side for these rotis.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
Whole wheat flour (atta)- 3 cups
Avocado- 1( pitted and mashed)
Chilli powder- 1 tsp
Cilantro- a handful (finely chopped)
Salt- as needed
Water- as needed for kneading
Ghee- as needed
Notes:
1. I added chopped cilantro and chilli powder to the mashed avocado. You may add in finely chopped onion, and finely grated garlic as well, for a more robust flavor.
2. Finely chopped green chillies can be added in place of chilli powder.
Preparation of the dough:
Scoop out the insides of an avocado. Mash it gently, and to this, add the chilli powder, finely chopped cilantro and needed salt. Mix well.
In a large mixing bowl, take 3 cups of wheat flour. Add the mashed avocado. Add the required salt.Knead the dough well, and add little water if required. Keep covered with a slightly damp paper towel. Let the dough rest. The dough will soften up, as it rests.
Preparation of the rotis:
Divide the dough into medium sized balls. Using a rolling pin, roll them into circles. Dusting with a little amount of flour will help prevent the dough from sticking on to the rolling pin.
Heat a tava. Over a medium flame, cook the rotis. Add a few drops of ghee. Once you see the roti slightly puffing up, flip it over and cook the other side.
Transfer to a serving plate, and enjoy these healthy and tasty rotis with any gravy of your choice.
