Apple-Strawberry Hemp milk smoothie

Strawberries are back in season!!!! This smoothie comes loaded with the nutritional benefits of apples and strawberries.  The liquid base for this smoothie is homemade hemp milk. The teeny-weeny hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats and essential fatty acids.They are a good protein source and contain god amounts of Vitamin E, calcium, iron and zinc.

Berries, in general provide a lot of antioxidants, and strawberries are no exception. These luscious berries are rich in Vitamin C and fiber. A word of caution about strawberries though: Strawberries are ranked first in the "Dirty Dozen" list of 2017 released by the Environmental Working Group. This means that random samples of conventional (non organic ) strawberries were found to have the highest concentrations of pesticide residues. So, organic strawberries are the way to go.

As far as apples go, they appear at No.4 in the "Dirty Dozen" list. Furthermore, there is a growing concern about wax being applied to the skin of apples, to give it a brighter color. So, organic apples would be a safer option.

Let's proceed to see the ingredients in this amazingly healthful smoothie.

Ingredients

Fruits

Organic apple- 1 (halved, with pits removed)
Organic strawberries- 4 to 5 medium sized strawberries

Camu camu powder- 2 tsps

This is a super berry with very powerful anti oxidant properties. It has more natural Vitamin C than any other food. It provides real value addition to this smoothie, especially during this scary flu season.

Fats

1 tbsp of MCT oil

This is a fat source, which is relatively easier to absorb, for folks who suffer from significant gastro-intestinal issues. This is because, it is processed in the liver, and used for energy.

It is Medium chain triglycerides, basically from coconut oil. It is a source of healthy saturated fats, which positively impact our health.

Protein powder

1 tbsp of Organic Vanilla protein powder.

Look out for protein powders, which have all ingredients sourced from non GMO sources.

Liquid base

Homemade Hemp seed milk- 2 cups

Sweetener

Manuka honey- 2 tsps

This honey offers a lot of anti bacterial and anti viral properties

Preparation

In a blender, add all the liquid ingredients first. Then add all the solid ingredients, and blend until smooth.

Pour into a glass, and relish the goodness of this healthy smoothie.

Notes

1. Feel free to add any other healthy fruits, greens of your choice to this smoothie.
2. Dairy milk, or other non dairy milks, like almond milk, walnut milk and coconut milk can be used to make this smoothie.
